Zennor is a very small village on the north coast of Cornwall on the Penwith peninsula, here St Senara's Church dominates the view.

The mermaid holding her mirror and her comb is carved on the end of a small seat which is said to be 600 years old. The story goes that a mermaid disguised as a richly dressed lady fell in love with a local named Matthew Trewella who sang superbly in church. He was charmed by her adoration and followed her down to the sea never to be seen again.
