As you drive about Wakefield District you often see hoardings, bulldozers and sometimes cranes as well, as new houses, offices and warehouses go up. As well as adding changing views to the local skyline, these developments often bring up evidence of the past as well.
This exhibition will look at some of the new developments in Wakefield District over the last 10-15 years where archaeologists have found more out about the past during building work. Examples include Iron Age farms and field systems under new warehousing near the M62, a Castleford pottery flint mill recorded before new houses were built, a medieval castle site confirmed before flood prevention works on a golf course, and evidence of a smelly Wakefield trade in the Middle Ages underneath new studios for artists.

There have been over 80 exhibitions dedicated to the work of Isamu Noguchi throughout the USA and Japan, yet this is the first opportunity for a European audience to experience a large-scale, critical exhibition of this important artistâs work.
One of the great sculptures of the 20th century, Noguchi created a significant and influential body of work including public environment projects, commissions, landscape and garden design, and stage sets for the choreographer Martha Graham, as well as collaborations with Charles Eames and others on a catalogue of highly regarded modern furniture.
The YSP exhibition will feature the wide range of Noguchiâs practice from indoor stone carvings, assemblage works and ceramics to works on paper and furniture. The Parkâs historic landscaped gardens and terraces will be populated by monumental stone sculptures, imbuing a sense of calm and contemplation that reflects Noguchiâs public works and the traditional Japanese Zen gardens in which the artist found inspiration and solace.
