This river runs through the grid square which is farmland and residences. Many residences have been built along the Lambourn river.

This is a footpath that carries the Lambourn Valley Way, here above the valley with good views, which you can enjoy when you are not watching where you are putting your feet. The track was rather muddy and slippery.

Dist:0.4km<br/>This appears to be a group of farm buildings that is now used for light industry and small office accommodation. The road sign seems to have been left over from the winter. Why ice is particularly a problem here I don't know. I suspect it is run-off from the fields beyond that crosses the road on its way to the River Lambourn to our left.

Dist:0.4km<br/>Is this a dovecot? I can't think what else it is. There are doves on the roof and chickens on the ground. Ironic that two of the doves were sitting on top of the weathervane, which is in the shape of a cockerel.

Dist:0.4km<br/>Fifty years to the day, bar one, since the last passenger train passed here on the Lambourn Valley Railway on 4 January 1960, the raised area on the left of the former trackbed is the platform and all that remains of the former Stockcross & Bagnor railway station that opened in 1898. Even in Victorian times it was difficult to see the purpose of the station. Stockcross is about a mile away up a hill accessed by a narrow lane, while Bagnor is also about a mile away across the valley of the River Lambourn in the opposite direction and accessed only by a footpath, otherwise about two miles by road. Woodspeen is and was only a hamlet with a dozen or so residences. Railway traffic was always light and the station was unmanned from 1905 onwards and redesignated as a halt in 1934. Although the whole line to Lambourn closed in 1960 to regular passenger and freight traffic, occasional military goods trains for RAF Welford used the track until 1973. The rails were eventually lifted around 1976.

Dist:0.5km<br/>This is the point on Snake Lane in Woodspeen where the railway used to cross. Ordinary passenger and freight services between Newbury and Lambourn ceased in 1960, fifty years bar a day from the date that this photo was taken. Military goods trains to RAF Welford made occasional use of the line up to 1973, but the tracks and infrastructure including the bridge formerly here were removed around 1976. [[1657091]] is off along the embankment to the right.
