Welcome to Woodhouse. This is a guide to the Woodhouse area.

Overlooking the Millennium Square, this building accommodates the Lord Mayor, City Treasurer and City Council. It was officially opened in 1933 by King George V.

This is the former New Jerusalem Chapel of the Swedenborgian Church in Leeds. It is now by the South Entrance to the Leeds University Campus.

Under the jib of the crane, you can see the Yorkshire Air Ambulance descending to land on the roof of Leeds General Infirmary, which is behind the Leeds Nuffield Hospital, the new building in the foreground.

St George's Church was built with a spire and 4 pinnacles around the base. In 1962 the spire was damaged in a storm, and some of the pinnacles fell through the church roof. The damage to the spire was so bad that it had to be demolished, as the church did not have the funds to repair both the spire and roof.
Now a new spire has been built, funded by the developers of a block of apartments beside the church (apparently it was a condition of planning permission). The new spire was erected in March 2006.
My picture is an attempt to recreate an old picture on the Leodis website which includes the original spire. Unfortunately the Centaur building was built later, and foiled my plan. My picture was taken with my back against the Centaur building. The original spire was evidently a lot taller than its replacement. For a view from the east see [[[148062]]]. The E C Stoner building is the long glass and concrete building. Above it to the right is the white tower of the university�s Parkinson Building, and to the left the tower with the gold dome belongs to the Clothworkers� Concert Hall, a building that started life as a Congregational Church. The photo was taken from the top floor of the Leeds General Infirmary car park, which is by the south edge of the campus.

The Jubilee Wing was built in the late 1990's and includes the Accident & Emergency department - the entrance is by the 2 ambulances. Parts of the interior are already undergoing changes - the reception area inside the main entrance at the left has various sections cordoned off.

A view from the roof of the LGI's car park. There is a group of older buildings across the picture which include the nurses home, and the newer section on the right is the entrance to the Jubilee Wing. The roofs of the hospital's oldest, Victorian, buildings can be seen on the right. Beyond them from left to right - West Riding House is the tall office block, in the centre is the clock tower of Leeds Town Hall, under construction to the right is Bridgewater Place which is currently the tallest building in Leeds (but taller ones are planned).
