Dist:0.4km<br/>The old railway line makes a good walk, although even that was very slippery in this icy weather. These hillsides just shouted "get me a pair of skis" but I don't have any.

Dist:0.4km<br/>Just ahead, the footpath to Flackwell Heath crosses the old Bourne End to High Wycombe railway line. It is a bright, crisp day and very difficult to get pictures that don't have strong shadows and bleached out sections. I failed here to show clearly that the sign says that, courtesy of Wooburn Parish Council this is a nature walk as part of the European Year of the Environment 1988. Remember that?

Dist:0.4km<br/>Formerly the Royal Oak public house and opposite the Church, the supports for the inn sign can still be seen. The two slightly thicker vertical black timbers at first floor level are actually two wooden carved figures, which were reputedly originally in the church, and were given by a builder undertaking refurbishment work in the church to the pub in lieu of rent.

Dist:0.7km<br/>Not the more famous River Wye in Wales. This one is the river that flows through Wye Combe (High Wycombe) then south here to join the Thames at Bourne End.

Dist:0.7km<br/>A nice row of former workers' cottages, right on the grid line. The three to the right are probably in [[SU9087]] The Spade Oak certainly is. This is not the pub of that name the other side of Bourne End [[SU8887]] but is the headquarters of the Spade Oak Group, a major surfacing contractor.

Dist:0.7km<br/>Flackwell Heath is on a plateau, so all footpaths lead up to it. This is the one from Wooburn, across what has been cattle pasture until recently.

Dist:0.7km<br/>The path out of Farm Wood descends gently across recently planted arable land towards Wooburn, with the church prominent. The view is towards the Thames Valley beyond. The crop is probably winter wheat, planted recently and over-wintering in the ground before germinating and starting to grow in February or March for a June harvest.

Dist:0.8km<br/>There is a steep climb, which ever side of the Wye valley you decide to go up from Wooburn. This is to the east, a long haul across an arable field, with recently planted winter wheat, towards Farm Wood.
