It was known locally as "Twenty Bridges" but in reality there are only nineteen,thirteen brick arches and six steel spans! Built in 1882 the bridge remained in use until 1973. Dist:0.8km west<br/>6233 Duchess of Sutherland passes beneath Boar's Head bridge (A49) heading for Carlisle. To the left of the loco is the old junction to the "LNW/L&Y Joint" line to Adlington. This junction was also the site of Boar's Head station (opened in 1869, closed in 1949). The line to Adlington closed in 1971.
