Dist:0.8km<br/>The canal is passing along wide flat valley bottom of the River Penk towards Deptmore Lock. Land to the right, and behind the camera, both sides of the river is managed as a wetland nature reserve. The Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal was opened in 1772, and engineered by James Brindley. It cost a little over £100,000 at the time for its 46 mile course from Stourport to Great Haywood

Dist:0.8km<br/>The River Penk has a surprisingly large flood plain near Stafford. Some of it is used as rough grazing from time to time, and a large part is managed as a wetlands nature reserve (Radford Meadows). Seen from the canal towpath.
