Dist:0.4km<br/>The Severn Sisters are a group of Fir trees on the Downs which were originally planted in 1871, although they have been replaced since. There are now only 3 of these trees remaining.

Dist:0.4km<br/>Only 3 of the 7 pine trees remain of the Seven Sisters on Durdham Downs. Two were lost in the storm in 1990. The original trees were planted about 1871. A new group of trees has been planted nearby.

Dist:0.4km<br/>This is White Tree Roundabout, a local landmark, painted once a year. (When I first came to Bristol it wasn't painted annually and I didn't understand why it was called White Tree Roundabout). This is at least the 3rd tree to have been painted white at this point, the first was removed when the roundabout was built, and the 2nd died in the 1970's of Dutch Elm disease. The tradition started in the middle of the 19th century, and has several theories as to why it began including one that it was to guide a local man home after he had visited the pubs in Clifton.
