Dist:0.2km<br/>This Woolworths was one of the last store to be opened in 2008 at the new Townsend shopping centre in Shepton Mallet. It closed in January 2009 and at the time of taking this picture in March 2010 there was no sign of any new tenants for the shop, or of the signage being removed.

Nearer the camera is a Salvation Army premises. The other end of the building is Shepton Mallet police station, a part of the Avon and Somerset Constabulary.

Though often referred to as a 'Registry Office' or 'Registration Office', Register Office is the official name, as shown on the name sign. In England and Wales, the Register Office is where births, deaths and marriages are registered and civil marriages conducted. Set up by Act of Parliament in 1837, the statutory registration service is overseen by the Registrar General but provided by the local authority. In this case, it is Somerset County Council.

There was a second brewery at Charlton, a third – the Old Town Brewery at Leg Street, and more premises at Kilver Street, where Babycham was produced by Showerings in the 20th century. Also known as the Shepton Mallet Pale Ale Brewery, the Anglo-Bavarian complex dates from 1864: brewing ceased after World War I
