![Dist:0.3km<br/>Outside the Hog's Head on Wilmslow Road. Unveiled in 1911, the tower is dedicated to the memory of Dr. John Milson Rhodes. He was a GP in Didsbury from 1874 until his death in 1909. From 1878 he was Overseer of the Poor for Didsbury Township, Chorlton Union. In 1882 he elected unapposed to the board of the Chorlton Board of Guardians, the second largest provincial union in the country. Over the years he held a number of influential positions. He was elected Chairman of the Poor Law Conference of England & Wales and of the Association of Poor Law Unions and the Northern Workhouse Nursing Association. In 1892, representing Withington, he was elected to Lancashire County Council. He was a County Alderman, a Justice of the Peace and a Visiting Justice at Strangeways Prison. He helped found and was Vice-President of the French based Société Internationale d'Assistance Publique.
