Dist:0.1km<br/>According to Dendy Marshall's 'History of the Southern Railway', the railway line closed to passenger traffic as long ago as the summer of 1935. The line ran from Chichester to Midhurst, with intermediate stops at Lavant, Singleton and Cocking. Although originally promoted as the Chichester & Midhurst Railway in 1864, the project languished until taken up by the London, Brighton & South Coast Railway, circa 1876 - eventually being opened to traffic in 1881. Dist:0.2km<br/>Looking down onto the part of West Dean village that straggles the main A286. The big red brick building is West Dean Primary School whilst the silos to the left belong to Manor Farm. The rest of the village is behind the trees to the left. The building to the right with smoke coming from the chimney is Little Home Farm.
