Dist:0.4km<br/>This straight path runs directly south from Westwinds Close to the former mine. A local told me it is the route of an old rail line over to the Alcoa metal works to the north. Although the finger post shows it is a public footpath it is not marked as such on any OS map.

Dist:0.7km<br/>This air shaft has long since been filled in (as has the actual mine shaft). At least three of the walls have had holes knocked in them - presumably to allow the filling to take place. The whole area is slowly returning to forest.

Dist:0.7km<br/>This wide track leads west from the main shaft entrance. The significant forest growth has been put to use: a tree has been deliberately felled in an effort to stop dirt bikers. It has not worked, it only slows them down.

Dist:0.9km<br/>It looks like this road was dug under the railway as an afterthought. The low bridge, narrow road and tight dip combine to hinder this rat run. In heavy rain the dip can fill up. In freak conditions this is one of the first roads to become impassable.

Dist:1.0km east<br/>Due to the low bridge ([[260106]]) around the corner off to the left at the end of the straight warning apparatus has been installed. Here you can see two poles on either side of the road in the foreground. If a vehicle breaks the beams shining between them a sign in the distance lights up.

Dist:1.1km north<br/>The maps show a bridge and path south from here across the river through Ystrad Isaf. The path was not a legal right of way and now it is gone. The metal footbridge has been torn from its footings and now lies in the water just downstream.

Yna, oddeutu 1900 ymestynwyd y rheilffordd i gysylltu a Glofeydd Garn Goch Rhif 1,2 & 3 ar Fynydd Carn Goch. Caewyd Garn Goch Rhif 3, yr olaf ohonynt i gynhyrchu glo, yn 1965 a chodwyd y traciau yn fuan wedyn. Rhychwanta'r bont Afon Llan. Mae rhan fwyaf o'r lein bellach yn llwybr cyhoeddus A dismantled railway which formerly linked Garn Goch Collieries with Gowerton Station. Originally, a 1,200 yard tramline was constructed to link Cae Newydd Colliery (sunk c1870) with the Great Western Railway. Later, circa 1900, the line was extended to link up with Garn Goch No 1, 2, & 3 Collieries on Mynydd Carn Goch. When the last of the collieries, Garn Goch No 3, closed in 1965 the railway also ceased to operate and the track removed. The bridge in the foreground spans the River Llan. Most of the former line is now a public footpath.

Dist:1.1km northwest<br/>The solid blue pipe emerging from the ground would probably damage any farm equipment driven over it which is why I imagine a small fence was erected around it and even though it has collapsed one stake is maintained upright as a marker.
