Gebhard Leberecht von (1742-1819) was a Prussian field marshal http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gebhard_Leberecht_von_Blücher Blucher pit was reopened in 1938 and finally closed in 1956 http://sine.ncl.ac.uk/view_structure_information.asp?struct_id=730 The village of Blucher grew around the pit. The vallum is in the fields on the left. Walbottle was spelt 'Wallbottle' on OS maps prior to 1930. The houses of Beverley Terrace are on the right and [[1988078]] down the road on the left.
