Dist:0.6km<br/>The vast and deserted expanse of the Widewater reach of the Grand Union Canal, downstream of [[1109992]], can be seen here. Taken on the last day of 2008, the canal had a layer of ice, about 5 millimetres thick, on its surface. In the very distance is the railway viaduct seen at closer quarters in [[1110066]].

Dist:0.6km<br/>Photographed from the Moorhall Road bridge, this is Lock No. 86 and its associated lock keeper's cottage. As its name suggests, the canal is wider than usual here, both upstream and downstream of the lock. Curiously the lock has a formal BWB site nameplate calling it "Wide Water", but searching for the name "Wide Water" and "lock" in Google produces 1 hit, whereas "Widewater" and "lock" produces 116 hits. To confuse matters even further the structure is also known as Harefield Moor Lock!
