One of Saddleworth's famous son's. He is a celebrated dialect poet whose verse captured the spirit of the wild moors hereabouts. It is situated at the southern end of Uppermill, the largest of the Saddleworth villages.

This statue commemorates the local dialect poet Ammon Wrigley (1861-1946). The statue, which was unveiled in 1991, stands to the left of the Uppermill museum car park, on land between the High Street and the Huddersfield Canal. The latter can be glimpsed between the trees in the background..

Saddleworth Round Table's 35th Annual BeerWalk took place on Saturday 17th of May 2008. This is the scene at its height on High Street Uppermill. The BeerWalk involves walking around the villages of Saddleworth taking in the wonderful local scenery (and a certain amount of local refreshment.) This is traditionally done in Fancy Dress and is a thoroughly enjoyable day for all concerned - participants and spectators alike. Now that the BeerWalk has reached its 35th Year, it is firmly established as one of the area's premier events. This year over 1800 people took part with thousands more turning out to line the route and watch them with upwards of £50,000 being raised for various charities on this event alone. The building in the centre of the picture is the Saddleworth Museum and Art Gallery. The museum opened in 1962 and is situated in one of the out buildings of the 19th century Victoria Mill the only part of the mill to survive with the rest of the mill originally occupying the car park to the left of the museum. In 1980 the Museum was extended thanks to a well supported public appeal, and an Art Gallery was added for exhibitions which also serves for various local events including lectures, children's events, and charity fund-raising. Saddleworth Museum and Art Gallery is an independent organization and a registered charity for funding it is reliant on entrance charges, donations, funds raised by the Friends, grants and support from Oldham Metropolitan Borough Council. One of the hidden treasures of Saddleworth Museum is undoubtedly its archive. Many people are unaware that under the same roof as the exhibits lies one of the single richest sources of local history to be found anywhere in the north of England. There are Photographs, Maps, Deeds, Wills, Census Returns and Parish Records with some of the earliest items dating back to the late 1500s. Taken from the rear of a 1940s army truck this is the A670 High Street in Uppermill. On the second weekend of August every year there is a wartime weekend event in Saddleworth http://www.yanksarebackinsaddleworth.co.uk/ Over the weekend there are various events throughout the area. On the Sunday one of the biggest convoys of wartime vehicles makes its away around Saddleworth passing through the villages of Uppermill, Delph, Standedge, Diggle, Dobcross and back to Uppermill.
