Dist:0.6km<br/>The VWH Hunt have been reduced to drag-hunting since the last Labour government banned the hunting of foxes for reasons allegedly connected with animal welfare. Thankfully hunts like this have survived more or less intact and await the day when the present administration can find time to repeal the legislation. Meantime rural foxes remain subject to more uncertain, probably more cruel methods of control that are acceptable to the muesli-munching, pinko-militant Trots who are, praise be, a fast-fading memory, and urban ones carry on being followed by BBC film crews for wildlife programmes.

Dist:0.6km<br/>The eponymous show is an annual event held on a farm just south of the small Wiltshire town of Cricklade. It is typical of town and village shows all over England and features various activities including best vegetable, floral arrangements and the like. One of the spectator participation attractions was laser clay shooting. This contender did quite well.

Dist:0.7km<br/>Two bridleways cross this field. The more westerly one provides the viewpoint towards the Saxon town of Cricklade with its distinctive church of St Sampson visible to the left at SU099935.

Dist:0.7km<br/>The land is probably pasture. It is presently unoccupied because the cattle that would be seen here later in the year are probably still being housed indoors. The large property on the skyline is the Cricklade Hotel and Country Club in SU0893.

Dist:0.7km<br/>The weather for the last few days has been cold and clear thanks to an area of high pressure over the UK. Before that there had been a period of wet and mild weather. The resulting puddle has frozen. A bridleway crosses the field from south to north a few metres from the viewpoint but it is not well-defined.

Another event was a display from a dance school from a nearby village. The dancers did very well considering they were performing in a field recently vacated by a herd of cows.
