Dist:0.5km<br/>The previous course of the Brede ran to the south of the current river which was constructed between 1419 and 1442 in order to protect inned land and provide a larger channel to help clear the silt out of Winchelsea harbour. The widening of the river enabled small wharves docks to exist at Brede Bridge and Float Farm whose oasts can be viewed to the left.
