Dist:0.6km<br/>A Maerz Kiln, used for producing burnt limestone products. This one is due for commissioning in early November 2009, so the constructiuon is more or less complete. Some external cladding will no doubt be added at the end. Once up and running, the kiln will produce high quality quicklime for use in industrial effluent treatment, concrete building blocks, steelmaking and soil stabilisation.

Dist:0.6km<br/>This humble commemorative stone in Tunstead marks the birthplace of James Brindley, often referred to as the Father of the English Canal Network. The house in which he was born is long demolished although at the time of posting another property occupying the site was being renovated.
