This photo was taken from the 1158 Penzance to London Paddington train, having left Truro at 1244 and about to arrive at St Austell.

Dist:0.7km<br/>There are a few houses at the bottom of the valley but evidence of this area's industrial past is strong with the vegetation covered china clay waste tip top right and an old chimney at the centre.

Dist:0.8km<br/>When the clay mines were at the peak then the waste tips looked liked white pyramids hence the name of this pub. Nowadays most of the tips have been landscaped or even flattened.

Dist:1.0km northeast<br/>Passing a disused clay drier is the morning Bristol to Penzance service having just left St Austell station a few minutes before. Many of these smaller clay driers shut in the 1960s as larger driers took over drying clay from a number of the clay pits.
