The Great War has ended (incidentally it was called Great because we won!) and Great Britain - there's that word again, chums - has occupied Mesopotamia and called it Iraq because it is so much easier to pronounce. Unfortunately the Arabs haven't shown their gratitude to our British soldiers (shame on them!) and are rebelling against liberation. Our noble and great Colonial Secretary, Winston Churchill, has advocated dropping poison gas on them, and many readers may agree with him!

But something almost as bad happens to the chums of St. Ethelred's, and you will just have to wait to find out what! For the boys of the Empire, things are about to get tough..."

Boys of the Empire

Thu, Jan 08
Venue: Kings Head Theatre
Location: London

Glenn Chandler’s sensational Edinburgh Festival sell-out comedy BOYS OF THE EMPIRE is coming to town this Christmas. A radical departure from a man known for his role as creator and BAFTA-winning writer of hit TV series TAGGART, BOYS OF THE EMPIRE is set in the world of 1920s Boy’s Own comics.

The play puts its frolics before its politics, but leaves audiences with more than laughs. Inspired by journalist Robert Fisk’s history of the Middle East, the plot follows the arrival of the son of an Arab businessman to wreak Jihad on the children of the foreign office at St Ethelred’s School for Boys. Taking in themes from colonial exploitation to classroom sexploitation, BOYS OF THE EMPIRE is superbly silly and sharply satirical.
