Toothill Homepage

Looking north from Toothill Road, towards the rampart of Toothill iron-age camp. The name "Toot hill" literally means lookout hill (similar to "Tout" in Dorset). The redwoods planted in the middle of the hillfort are make the hill even more of a landmark for many miles around.

The larger pylon (right) carries power at 132 KV from Nursling to Velmore substation in Chandler's Ford. The smaller pylon (left) carries power at 33 KV from Upton to North Baddesley substation.

Dist:0.4km<br/>The masts are behind a water reservoir with which the white building is assoicated. The horizontal wires are from two lines of pylons (one 33 KV and one 132 KV) which pass overhead here.

Dist:0.6km<br/>Hoe Lane continues into the trees on the left of the photo while Sylvan Drive (with its 1980s executive homes) bends around to the right. Hoe Lane proper has suffered badly from the onslaught of vehicular traffic and is a mess of ruts and damaged verges. I piously cycled onward.
