Dist:0.5km<br/>Taken from the roundabout at the junction with Hexham Road. St Mary's Church is on the left [[103956]]. The small building behind the car is the only reminder of the Lyric Cinema which used to be at this junction. The store is called, 'Lyric Wines'. The Lyric Cinema opened in 1935 and closed in 1966. Dist:0.5km<br/>Filter beds constructed by the Newcastle & Gateshead Water Company (now disused). The small building below the trees is a valve house dating from c. 1870. Water was to Throckley by an open aqueduct and tunnel from Whittle Dean Reservoir, and then distributed by 30-inch and 24-inch metal pipes to the city.

Dist:0.5km<br/>A Care Home and Community Centre built on the site of the Centurion Public House, demolished in 2009. The junction of Broomy Hill Road is on the right. I wish that I had photographed the pub (built in the 1950s) as I used to pass it every day and never considered it would disappear.
