This field of clover occupies a valley known as Low Grounds which is enclosed to the left, right and behind photographer by horseshoe-shaped woodland. Ahead, is Avington Lake.

Dist:0.4km<br/>There is a continuous footpath from Larkwhistle Farm to Avington. Here it follows one of the farm tracks, but does not always do so; just into the woods it diverts onto a woodland path.

Dist:0.6km<br/>Only these sloes, scrub, nettles and a few broken slabs are now to be seen on the site of Mud Farm, which would have been to the right of this footpath. It must have been demolished perhaps 15 to 20 years ago. I spoke to a local who said he knew the man who demolished it but not when.

Dist:0.6km<br/>Avington Park is a late 17th century house, privately owned but used for conferences and weddings. It is grade 1 listed. The lake is artificial, created from a branch of the River Itchen.

Dist:0.7km<br/>The highland breed of cattle has a long and distinguished ancestry, not only in its homeland of western Scotland, but also in many far-flung parts of the world. One of Britain's oldest, most distinctive, and best known breeds, that has a long, thick, flowing coat of rich hair and sweeping horns, the Highlander has remained largely unchanged over the centuries. There is a small herd of these cows roaming freely around the park.
