Dist:0.1km<br/>Pevsner records the porch as having been rebuilt in 1729, but clearly older material was retained, as two of these inscriptions are dated 1689 (WM) and 1690 (RM) respectively. The time it would have taken to carve these initials suggests that they might have had some official approval; maybe they were churchwardens?

Dist:0.3km<br/>This is the only road into the village of Syerston, so has to be kept open throughout the works. The yellow-suited gent has to spend all day operating the traffic lights controlling construction plant crossing the road. Modern Health and Safety regulations mean that he has to be provided with canteen, drying room and toilet, all of which are contained in the grey cabin. Beyond can be seen one of the abutments for the bridge over the new A46.
