Pushing them apart at the top enabled one to step through, after which the bars returned automatically to the closed position. Not suitable for wheelchairs, but then neither was the footpath on this day, since a few yards further on, it was several inches deep in mud and cow slurry!

Dist:0.3km<br/>The young lady from Swingate Farm was collecting horse dung from the surrounding paddocks. Trish comments that it is good practice to clear the droppings to stop worms, eggs and larvae passing to other horses. Droppings also sour the grass.

Dist:0.3km<br/>This is probably the most isolated of the city's imposing cast iron boundary posts, at the outer corner of the protruding nib north west of Bilborough. Although marked on the 1:25000, this was no guarantee of its continued existence so I was gratified to find it is still there. The marker carries the date (1933), the city name and coat of arms, and the word BOUNDARY on the lower band.
