Dist:0.3km north<br/>A travellers bus parked up on Wildwood Road. Permits in the front window indicate that it had just been to the Glastonbury Festival. The vehicle is a Bristol VR with Eastern Coach Works body. Numerous modifications have been made to the vehicle including decking on the roof. The driver of the Travis Perkins truck, a neighbour of mine, is on his way to collect the first load of deliveries for the day.

Dist:0.3km north<br/>Located where Hampstead Lane becomes Spaniards Road, there was once a toll gate here. A brief history of the inn is given in the comments of [[53762]]. The nature of the traffic problem is clear from this side, further compounded by pedestrians with dogs trying to use the side of the road without any pavement. The clapperboard construction of this side of the inn, a design that it shares with Jack Straws Castle beside Whitestone Pond, is evident in this photo.

Dist:0.3km north<br/>This constriction in the B519 is where Hampstead Lane becomes Spaniards Road. It is caused by a 400 year old Inn and one of its outbuildings. The Inn named after a pair of its former proprietors who killed each other in a duel not only gives its name to the road, it is named on the old inch to mile and the 1:50,000 series O.S maps. I wonder if a cartographer had a particularly good lunch when doing the original survey? The Spaniards is reputedly the Birthplace of Dick Turpin, it gets an honourable mention in the Pickwick Papers and Bram Stokers Dracula. It has had many notable regulars including John Constable, Keats and William Blake.

Dist:0.3km north<br/>The water has long since ceased to flow from this drinking fountain dedicated to the memory of Walter Field, Associate of the Royal Watercolour Society.

Dist:0.4km north<br/>A recent attempt to encourage the water from heavy winter rains to go into the ditch via a route other than the footpath. The ditch is visible under the Holly bushes. It wasn't entirely successful and the walking area - out of shot on the left - was a quagmire again. the road behind is Wildwood Road.

Dist:0.4km north<br/>Viewed from the junction with Hampstead Lane. This Southernmost end is a popular parking spot for visitors to Kenwood House and Hampstead Heath. Spaces are at a premium on this hot spring Saturday.

Dist:0.4km north<br/>The second lowest pond in the chain on the extension. Here, a water lily is doing well. the reeds have gone to seed and in the background is a fine stand of Rosebay Willowherb. The trees in the distance reflect nicely on the surface of the water in the early morning light.

Dist:0.4km north<br/>The largest and lowest of a string of ponds on the extension's southeastern end. Conservation efforts have improved the area for plants and animals. in the foreground are Moorhens with young. A duck is approaching, presumably in the hope of some bread.
