Dist:0.5km north<br/>These almshouses were built by Charles Day in 1828. There are eight of them on a 1 acre plot fronting onto Watling Street at Stone Grove which he bought from All Souls College. During his lifetime Day selected the almspeople. By his will, he conveyed the almshouses and land to trustees, leaving sufficient money to provide an endowment of £100 a year for the upkeep of the property and weekly payments to the almspeople. In selecting almspeople the trustees were to give preference to parishioners of Edgware and Little Stanmore, providing that they did not sell or drink intoxicants, swear, or break the Sabbath. The almshouses consist of a long single-storied range in an early-19th-century Gothic style with steep gables, pinnacled buttresses and a slate roof. The front is faced with stone ashlar and has Gothic arcading below the eaves and verges. In the central gable, which is flanked by two smaller ones, is a clock and the date 1828.

Dist:0.7km north<br/>These odd brick remains in the fields east of what is now the A41 Edgware Way are the only surviving civil engineering reminders of the proposed extension of London Underground's Northern Line beyond Edgware to Bushey Heath. The extension was proposed as part of the 1935 - 1940 New Works programme. A reserved corridor for the railway was left between the housing developments north of Edgware station and this viaduct was constructed to carry the railway over low ground near Edgwarebury Brook and up to Brockley Hill. However the onset of the Second World War brought a halt to construction and after the war the 1947 Town and Country Planning Act gave Green Belt status to all the open land north of Edgware which had previously been earmarked for housing. Without the housing it was thought that the railway would have had little traffic and little purpose and the proposed extension to Bushey Heath was truncated to a station at Brockley Hill in 1950, and the entire plan was abandoned in 1953. The reserved corridor was then sold off for housing and the infill estates of Campbell Croft, Shelley Close, and Sterling Avenue in Edgware were built. The viaduct itself has gradually crumbled away leaving only the brick piers and short sections of the arches beyond the springer points, as visible in this image.

Dist:0.9km south<br/>Viewed through the northern entrance gates to The George V Memorial Garden [[638414]] the Temple dates from the early 1800s and is a listed structure that originally had a palm house at its front. After suffering vandalism and a fire it has recently been completely refurbished by Harrow Council, the remedial works having been funded by part of a £1 million grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund to the overall restoration of Canons Park.

Dist:0.9km south<br/>Four clumps of pampas grass (cortaderia selloana) stand at the corners of the pond at the centre of the garden, which was created inside the walls of the former kitchen garden of the estate when management of Canons Park passed to the local authority in 1937. The garden was set out to accord with the Golden Ratio whereby the ratio between the sum of two quantities and the larger one is the same as the ratio between the larger one and the smaller one. The golden ratio is approximately 1.618.
