A view north from Bringewood. There is a prominent gap in the same limestone ridge as the point of view, and the gap is guarded by the fortified house of Stokesay Castle. This distant view shows the strategic position of Stokesay, where the Onny cuts through Wenlock Edge's limestone ridges. Beyond the castle, is modern Craven Arms, a minor railway town. (Railways like gaps in limestone ridges too) and in the far distance the Long Mynd. Since the trees were removed, the summit of Bringewood Chase has become a fine viewpoint.

Not a castle, but a fortified manor house, hardly changed since the late 13th century. It was built by Lawrence Ludlow, a leading wool merchant of his day. In the background is a 17th century timber framed gatehouse.

Apparently this crane rolled off this unclassified road in January 2010 and is still there in October. The good news is that the 54 year old driver escaped unharmed, though no doubt a bit shaken as the 40 tonne crane performed a half roll and landed on its cab roof. I'm mystified why the crane operated by Direct Crane Hire of Sandbach and contracted out to Black & Veatch has not yet been recovered after 10 months. It was supposed to do a lift at the nearby sewage treatment works when this incident occurred. Not an everyday sight.
