Several glacial erratics (from the Lake District) can be found in this park. This one has been worn smooth by generations of children touching it and sliding down it.

Dist:0.2km<br/>The entrance to Woodbank Memorial Park [[2879129]]on Turncroft Road. The glacial erratic behind the portico is from the Lake District. On the right is Vernon Park. Woodbank Memorial Park, 90 acres in extent and skirted by the river Goyt was presented to the town in 1921 by Sir Thomas Rowbotham, a former Major of Stockport, in honour of the Stockport men who died in the Great War.

Dist:0.2km<br/>One of two cannons in Vernon park. When the park was opened in September 1858 a 21 gun salute was fired using cannons donated by the War Office. These were Russian cannons captured at the battle of Sebastopol during the Crimean War. The original cannons were taken away as scrap in 1940 and were replaced of 24-pounder cast-iron Blomefields seated on cast iron garrison carriages.
