Dist:0.3km<br/>This is a small block of terraced houses in Stirchley close to the River Rea. This terrace is isolated in an area devoted to business and industrial units. Only one house in the terrace remains occupied and all the rest are boarded up with metal sheets to prevent vandalism.

Dist:0.3km<br/>The Stirchley meeting house is adjacent to Stirchley Baths.When this photo was taken in January 2006 the swimming baths had been closed for 20 years and were is a derelict state. Update: Since this photo was taken the former Quaker meeting house has been bought by the Midlands Co-operative Society Ltd, who have a supermarket nearby. The building, like its neighbour is disused and boarded up. The baths are to be renovated for use as a community centre with money raised from the sale of the existing Stirchley Community Centre site to rivals Tesco. However the fate of the former Friends Meeting House is unclear.

This grade II listed building was built land provided by the Cadburys and officially opened on July 25th 1911 The swimming pool has been closed for 20 years or more and in very poor state. The state of the baths mirrors the general economic decline in the Stirchley area in the 1970s/80s. There are plans to regenerate the area and several applications being considered for various retail developments on adjacent sites. Proposals by the co-op, who have a very large superstore nearby, includes renovation of the baths. Update - February 2012: In 2011 Tesco announced an agreement with Birmingham City Council for purchase land required for the construction of a new supermarket, occupied by Stirchley Community Centre and an indoor bowls centre. The money raised is to be used to restore Stirchley Baths for use as new community centre.

Dist:0.3km<br/>Birmingham was originally founded on a crossing of the River Rea in the centre of present day Birmingham. Here it flows through Ten Acres, Stirchley at the end of Bewdley Road. Halcyon days - As I walked through some scrub land to take the photograph I disturbed a kingfisher which flew off along the River. All this just a few yards from the busy A441 Pershore Road in a densely built-up area.
