This charming cottage is a National Trust holiday cottage. It is situated in Church Street in the south eastern section of the grid square. Originally, all the houses in this village resembled this style of building. In later times it became unfashionable to live in timber frame buildings and owners put brick and mortar facades on.

Tanyard Cottages are to the left and New Row is to the right, the houses and warehouse ahead are on the site of a former tanners that operated from the 1830s to 1939, in fact the owner, Sir George Breach, built New Row in the 1850s to house his workers.

Narrow alley connecting the main village street with Charlton Street. The shop in view sells dolls houses and their accessories which you can just about make out in the window.

In the distance is the old poorhouse built in the 16th century and on the junction of High Street, Horsham Road and Mouse Lane, the latter being the ancient western route out of town before being superseded by a turnpike in the early 19th century that is the current A283.

Dist:0.2km<br/>More timber framed houses from the 1500s line the street. Many more have been modernised through the ages and can trace their origins to roughly a similar period. The street itself wasn't the original street of the small town that distinction belongs to Church Street but a reorientation of routes brought this street to prominence as a major east-west route eclipsing that of Church Street.
