Dist:0.2km<br/>At high water, the weir forms a retentive and potentially dangerous stopper, whilst at low water, there may simply not be enough water to slide down the weir face. In either case, apart from a portage, the best route down Warren's dam is to drop into the big pool of the fishladder, and exit through one of the three slots back into the main river. On the day this photo was taken, the middle slot was boarded up and not allowing much water over, but as the stopper on the weir did not extend far from the face, the safest route was over the slot seen here. A "boof" is an onomatopoeic term, named for the sound a boat makes on landing when the technique is used. Essentially a carefully timed combination of paddle stroke and weight shift, the technique pushes the boat out from the face of a drop, rather than nose-diving over it.
