Dist:0.4km<br/>Stanmore's old brick church was abandoned when the new one was built next to it in the 19C. It is opened from time to time, but not today so this is taken from a window (with flowers growing out of it). That's not a solar panel on the tomb by the way. Dist:0.4km<br/>The red brick church was conscrecrated in 1632 but was replaced in 1850 by [[2502467]]. At that time the roof of the old church was removed but the rest of the structure was left intact. The architect was reputedly Nicholas Stone. Churches of this era are relatively uncommon, falling between the periods of mediaeval village churches, and 18th and 19th century churches built to serve growing urban populations. It is a Grade II* Listed Building.

Dist:0.4km<br/>Completed in 1850 in the Early Decorated Gothic style popular in the mid-nineteenth century, and to replace the old brick church [[2502502]], which is just visible on the left, the new church is a Grade II* Listed Building, but mainly by virtue of the monuments transferred from the old church. Dist:0.4km<br/>Unsurprisingly there is already a fair selection of pictures from several contributors of the old parish church, (out of sight behind from this angle) After all it is ruined and romantic and altogether very photogenic. But this is the replacement, a pleasant enough Victorian church, opened in 1851, but one which hasn't featured on Geograph till now.
