Dist:0.2km<br/>This was part of Murgatroyd's Lime Works, much smaller than the adjacent Craven Lime Works. When the latter company built the Hoffman kiln in 1873, Murgatroyd's could not compete and went out of business within 20 years.

Dist:0.2km<br/>These are very tall kilns, and this one has an entrance at the bottom that is tunnelled through rock to reach the brning chamber. The lime was extracted through this entrance and loaded onto wagons on a siding off the adjacent railway line.

Dist:0.3km<br/>Completed in 1873 the kiln is a large oval, 128m long, and fired limestone in a continuous process, the fire moving round the oval. This picture is taken near one end of the oval.
