Dist:1.0km east<br/>This hall was originally called the ‘Cowper Memorial Hall’, but it has since been renamed ‘Mayflower Place’. It was built in 1910, on the instructions of Countess Cowper (pronounced Cuper), in memory of her husband who died in 1905, by the skilled workmen from the Cole Green Estate Works. The hall was built to provide a meeting and recreation place for the families of her estate workers.

Given the 5 years that have elapsed between the two pictures and the tendency of routes like this to become overgrown very quickly, it is a tribute to Sustrans rangers that they have kept it clear.

Dist:1.1km southeast<br/>Grotto Wood occupies the site of a 17th or early 18th century formal garden. The garden was associated with Roxford Manor (now the site of Roxford Farm). The wood contains the rather forlorn remains of three ornamental pools and a series of mounds. The grotto itself is long gone. The site is now a nature reserve.
