Dist:0.2km<br/>View northward, towards Honeybourne, Stratford-on-Avon and Birmingham; also the branch to Cheltenham (St James') went off to the right just north of this station. The locomotive is Stanier 8F 2-8-0 No. 48450, one of the 80 built at Swindon Works in 1943-45 and kept on the GWR/BR(WR); most were taken over by the LMSR in 1947, but a number were returned to the WR later - this being one of the latter.

Dist:0.2km<br/>View SW, towards Gloucester, also Swindon, Marlborough and Andover: ex-GW Gloucester etc. - Stratford-on-Avon - Birmingham line. Even after Nationalisation the former Midland & South Western Junction Railway trains terminated at the ex-Midland Lansdown station at Cheltenham. Only in the last few years before they ended from 11/9/61 were they diverted to St James' station and - to make matters even more interesting - were worked by the Western Region with SR locomotives. Here, SR Maunsell U class 2-6-0 No. 31793 (built 5/25 as K class 2-6-4T, rebuilt 6/28, withdrawn 5/64) is working the 07.50 from Andover Junction.

Dist:0.3km<br/>The Calcutta didn't exactly attract the best clientèle in its final days as a public house, but it was a landmark on Gloucester Road with its unique appearance. It was replaced by an unsympathetic housing development.
