Dist:0.3km<br/>The location is the corner of New Street and Park End Road. A Gloucester City Council planning application granted in 2010 is for the demolition of the Park End public house and the erection of 14 residential units: 6 2-bedroom apartments and 8 3-bedroom houses.

Dist:0.3km<br/>View NE at California Crossing, towards Gloucester Eastgate (formerly Midland) station, on the ex-Midland Birmingham - Bristol main line, where also the Goods line to High Orchard (Gloucester Docks) branched off. This is the 02.55 (!) Leeds City - Bristol (with some curious carriages), headed by Stanier 5MT 4-6-0 No. 45040 (built 1934, withdrawn 7/67). The Loop, the High Orchard branch and Eastgate were abandoned in 12/75, in favour of new roads. Since then all trains have had to reverse in the former GWR Central Station, which was adapted - inadequately. Since then the situation at Gloucester has reverted to that prior to 1896, when the Midland Railway built ist own Station and the Tuffley Loop.

Dist:0.3km<br/>The former signal box and level crossing between Midland Road and Park End road across the ex-Midland Line into Gloucester Eastgate Station. When the line was closed in 1975 the signal box, by this time just a gate box, was dismantled and it is now preserved at the North Gloucestershire Railway site at Toddington (http://www.isibutu.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/3.html ) in SP049320.

In this 1968 view the signal box controlling the crossing can be seen along with one of the semaphore signals which were still in use at that time. This line was plagued with a succession of level crossings and was eventually closed in the 1970s. All that can be seen today is the slight rise in the road (just the right of the further "diversion" sign) and the former railway cottage (the white building to the right of the picture).
