This is the Royal Oak in Tabard St Southwark, Harveys Flagship tied house in London. It is on many a dedicated ale fans pilgrimage trail. In this geographer's humble opinion one of the finest boozers in town. It has won the local Camra Branch pub of the year on numerous occasions. The beer is superbly kept and they serve a traditional steak and kidney pud that is hard to beat. If you are more interested in history than beer try [[289642]].

Typical London back-street pub, on the corner of Ayres Street and Clennam Street. Trumans beers have long gone, but it is pleasing that old pub frontages like this one have often been retained.

New Kent Road runs under the railway bridge ahead. The fire damaged block of flats ahead is Albert Barnes House [[431573]] .

There has been some recent fire damage to some flats in Albert Barnes House. Windows on the 7th and 8th floor are boarded up, and there is smoke damage above. It must have been a truly frightening experience for all the occupants of the block.

This church (or Bethel, as the members will refer to it) is on the corner of Falmouth Road and County Street. The Brotherhood of the Cross and Star is Christian based and has its origins in Nigeria. It appears to be a highly distinctive and strict flavour of Christianity though, having significant differences from denominations regarded as being conventional in the UK. There are numerous 5 storey blocks like this in the immediate area. They would probably have been built in the 1930s to a fairly standard design. There will be countless small variations on this theme to be seen within Inner London.
