Dist:0.2km<br/>This area of lawn is drained by a network of small gutters, presumably to 'improve the grazing' for commoners' stock such as these ponies. The hummocks on the lawn show that it is waterlogged for a significant part of the year. The trees on the far side of the lawn are at the back of The Weirs Cottage.

Dist:0.3km<br/>Looking south across Burley Road towards two of the cottages on the gravel track called South Weirs. One of the cottages is called Lambert Cottage (I think the one on the right). The three wooden posts in the foreground are to prevent motor vehicles driving down the path that leads off the tarmac road - elsewhere a ditch performs this function.

Dist:0.3km<br/>These ponies are grazing the already well-grazed grass alongside a stream that flows between Trenley Lawn and Furzy Hill. The course of this stream through the heathland is marked by the silver birch trees.

Dist:0.3km<br/>These ponies are grazing on the eastern edge of Trenley Lawn. The mare on the left is heavily pregnant and should give birth soon. May is the time when many foals are born to ponies in the New Forest - they will be rounded up in the drift later on in the year.

Dist:0.4km<br/>A roan coloured pony grazes beside the K6 telephone box. In 1935, the Post Office commissioned a new kiosk from Sir Giles Gilbert Scott to celebrate the Jubilee of King George V. The K6 Jubilee Kiosk, as it is known, was similar to the K2 box, being made of cast iron and painted red but was 25% lighter in weight. By the end of the 1930s there were 20,000 K6 telephone boxes in use all over the UK.

Dist:0.4km<br/>The gravel track in the foreground is called South Weirs and leads south from Burley Road, west of Brockenhurst. Beyond the telephone kiosk is a pond that has nearly dried up following the recent dry spell. On the far side of the pond is a very fat oak tree.
