Dist:0.1km<br/>This outfall pipe runs from the end of Workman's Lane out into the Solent, 600 meters from the strand line, and out beyond the mean low water mark. It is shown on the 1:25000 Explorer Map 119. You can see where the pipe crosses the mean low water mark on the 1:50000 map by looking for the small spit that has built up, extending the shore South by 20 metres or so. Other outfall pipes in this area are much shorter than this one, suggesting that at one time it might have been used for disposing of untreated sewage. Note the cormorant on the marker post and the liner making a turn into the deep water channel of Southampton Water.

Dist:0.3km<br/>This 600 metre outfall extends beyond the mean low water mark. Four marker posts warn shipping of the path it takes, but only the first three can be seen in this image. Note how the longshore drift from the talus of the rapidly eroding Chilling Cliff has built up on one side of the outfall.

Dist:0.4km<br/>The sea defence at Solent Breezes Holiday Village consists of rocks and flint nodules enclosed in metal cages. These absorb the wave energy, protecting the low gravel and sand cliff. The coastline down from the River Hamble (SU4805) is especially prone to erosion. This view shows the mudflats by Solent Breezes slipway, looking towards Fawley Power Station.

Dist:0.4km<br/>A permanent caravan park is sited very close to the high water line, and coastal defence works have been carried out here to prevent further erosion. A public footpath is marked along the foreshore here, this side of the barrier, but as can be seen it is not accessible at high tide.

Dist:0.5km<br/>A mixture of different sea defences can be seen along this short stretch of coast behind Solent Breezes including: a corrugated steel retaining wall; wooden revetments above the wall; rock armour, or riprap on the upper slope; gabions or rocks wired into mesh cages by the sides of the stairway. This is a very active coast with the shingle beach to the North moving away from Solent Breezes, and material rapidly eroding from Chilling Cliff moving South.
