Dist:0.4km<br/>The sea bank on the south side of the River Haven is clearly seen here, with the tidal river a few metres above the surrounding land. This is the new sea wall, the older one being further inland which would have meant that the area to the right where the industrial buildings are situated would have previously been flooded.

Dist:0.4km<br/>As the River Haven heads towards the Wash, it becomes more rural, leaving the Post of Boston behind. The sea wall on both sides is a few metres above the river, sometimes close to its bank and sometimes drifting inland. The Macmillan Way (290-mile coast to coast route from Lincolnshire to Dorset) follows this bank for several miles.

To the left below the pylons, Boston Stump (St Botolphs, Boston) in the centre of Boston; a landmark for miles around. In the foreground the flood plain of the River Haven can be seen, contained by the sea bank to the left.

Dist:0.5km<br/>Looking along the short tidal River Haven which connects the Wash (behind) to the docks and the River Witham (ahead). The ship making its way into the docks is Fast Sam, a 3,200-tonne cargo ship flying the Belgian flag. Commercial traffic is piloted from the Wash as only a narrow stretch of river is navigable and only at high tide.

Dist:0.5km<br/>The Port of Boston lies ahead, marked by the enormous pylons which carry power over the River Witham. The sluice gate at the end of West Fen Drain lies beneath the leftmost pylon.

Dist:0.5km<br/>The River Haven flows through the Port of Boston. Here, shortly after high tide, it can be seen to be much higher than the surrounding land, protected by substantial sea banks, this being on the south of the river.

Dist:0.5km<br/>Looking south-east along the short tidal River Haven which connects the Wash (ahead) to the docks and the River Witham (behind). The light was curious. It was a mostly gloomy morning, but the sun lurked behind the thick blanket of cloud and periodically forcefully revealed itself through small holes. I think the photo is darker than the reality because the shot was taken into the sun.
