The factory produced refractory products such as retorts, pressed bricks and wirecut bricks for the gas, steel and glass industries from the local Etruria Marl. This was one of several dozen in the area.

Dist:0.3km<br/>Harris & Pearson started their firebrick factory in 1852. Production on the site continued until the 1980s. The Grade II listed office building, constructed in 1888 from refractory bricks fired on site was used until the 1990s. It fell into disrepair and it was transferred to the West Midlands Historic Buildings Trust in 2003. Restoration in 2004 and 2005 cost about £900,000. Local Environmental Consultancy, Johnson, Poole & Bloomer, purchased the building in May 2009 as their new offices. They have historic links to Harris & Pearson having acted as their Mineral Surveyor in the 1800s.
