On the east side of Shoreditch High Street. The narrow street emerging onto Shoreditch High Street here, now a one-way street, is Redchurch Street, (formerly named Church Street), which was until 1879 the outlet from Bethnal Green Road

The fine new bowstring bridge across Shoreditch High Street had only been in place for about ten days when photographed here. From 2010, it will carry Uncle Ken's new Overground East London line, with some twelve trains per hour through from Dalston Junction to various destinations south of the river. The bridge was put in place by the use of the largest crane in the world.

Seen here from the junction with Great Eastern Street, the new bridge over Shoreditch High Street will carry the London Overground route connecting the East London Line with the North London Line which will have through services between Highbury & Islington and West Croydon. A new station, called Shoreditch High Street, will be sited just to the right of the picture.

The former Swan pub retained on the corner of the block looks even more ill at ease with its neighbours than if it were open.
