This 'folly' was built in 1784 to commemorate the 'conquest of the castle of Severndroog off the coast of Malabar' two decades earlier.

Dist:1.0km west<br/>For most of the 20th century there were three busy hospitals on Shooters Hill, one of which was the Brook. Now there's very little of it left. The former water tower has been innovatively converted into a modern dwelling, with superb views from the top over south east London

Dist:1.4km southeast<br/>This stretch of road was one long rush hour traffic jam twice a day until the Rochester Way Relief Road was opened in the 1980s. This road junction is at the southern edge of Oxleas Woods, and ancient woodland that's been saved from the road builders by dedicated campaigners.

Dist:1.4km southwest<br/>The Pleasaunce is a small but beautiful area of trees, streams and paths very close to the centre of Eltham. The building is the Tudor Barn, which houses a restaurant.

Dist:1.4km northwest<br/>Photography in this grid square is not easy in view of the large number of military installations, where personnel are understandably reluctant to permit it. But this quiet section of the Green Chain walk could cause no one any offence. The eponymous haha can be seen to the left of the path.

Dist:1.4km northeast<br/>This hostelry has a pleasant external appearance, and provided a welcome glass of brandy for your photographer on a cold March day.

Dist:1.4km northeast<br/>Former Anglican church of St Alban which closed sometime before WW2. After the War it was used as a warehouse but since 1980 has been used as a church again.
