Dist:0.1km<br/>If you head towards Wigan from the M6 Jn27, you can see the original plan was to build a nice new road to bypass sleepy Standish. They even built a bridge to carry the A5209 over this new highway, which no-one seemed keen to pay for. The result is known locally as the "Bridge to Nowhere", but should more accurately be known as the bridge over nothing!

Dist:0.6km<br/>Houses just off the A5209. The deep snow was very local, a short distance away north or south on the M6 there were far smaller accumulations. By the 27th December a thaw was in progress and things looked very mucky around here.
