Dist:0.3km<br/>This square is mostly farmland, with the A338 and the B4000 passing through. There are a few residences and a pub at the intersection. This view is of farmland in the north western section of the square, to the west of the B4000, looking more or less along the line of the road. The crop appeared to be barley.

Dist:0.3km<br/>Although this colourful and handsome bird is Britain's most widespread game bird, it is not a native. The pheasant's native home is in Asia, from the Caucasus eastwards to China. Its eating qualities were appreciated as long ago as the Middle Ages when it was first introduced. It appears infrequently as a pub sign.

Dist:0.3km<br/>The first records of hospitality on the site of the current Pheasant Inn was of a drovers shelter in the 16th century. In the 19th century per premises was licensed to sell beer and paraffin and was known as the Paraffin House. The inn has been in private hands and it has now been expanded, but the original part of the inn still exists. For a close-up of the sign [[1918498]]

Dist:0.4km<br/>At the crossroads in the centre of the hamlet stands St Stephen's church. This was formerly the junction of the A338 and the B4000, both of which now bypass the place.

Dist:0.6km<br/>Fisher's Farm is a bed and breakfast establishment. I don't know anything about it but it is in a beautiful location. Update: I've been directed to the website for Fisher's Farm http://www.fishersfarm.co.uk/index.htm Should viewers want somewhere to stay in this area they might like to consider this possibility. As I said, it's a lovely spot.
