Dist:0.3km north<br/>High Street really earns its name on Scapegoat Hill, running at about 315m above sea level. To the left of the picture are old Weavers cottages. In the centre of the picture in the distance, you can make out the Ferrybridge power station 26 miles away ([[SE4824]]).

Dist:0.7km east<br/>The footpath is heading down the hill from Green Edge to Hollins Hall. All the fence or wall crossings except this one have stiles or opening gates, but this gate is padlocked. You need to be agile to climb the fence!

Dist:0.7km west<br/>Another view from the permissive path. This shows the bridge carrying Round Ings Road over the M62, and more of Outlane village. The main road is in Longwood (Kirklees District) and the area beyond is in Stainland (Calderdale District), and is properly part of Sowood village rather than Outlane.

Dist:0.8km south<br/>One feature of the West Yorkshire Pennines is a rounded plateau or ridge projecting from a hill. This photograph shows the eastern side of a ridge sloping gently from east (left) to west, where it ends in a steep escarpment (not in this view). Heath House Mill is in the distance on the left, near the head of a steep valley. The straight roads were probably set out by enclosure commissioners. The land is quite high, around 270m AOD, but there are many houses. The view is from Pike Law Road on the slopes of Scapegoat Hill.

Dist:0.8km west<br/>This is from the permissive path along the north-western edge of the plateau. The newly planted trees can be seen. Unfortunately they will block the view when mature. In the distance is the upper part of the ribbon development of Outlane, and the fields on the slopes of Stainland Moor. Also a small reservoir that probably served Gosport Mills in Outlane.
