The recently renovated tower of St Mary's, complete with a nicely painted door and a 1GL boltmark derived from a side levelling. See [[[2250874]]], and the database www.bench-marks.org.uk/bm36733 The church has been serving the local populace since Norman times and possibly earlier, and has historical links with the Battle of Lansdown (1643). Bolt benchmark in the doorway of St Mary's church, Saltford. This building may date back to late Saxon times, but has certainly been renovated more than once since. Indeed the tower (in which this is beside the entrance) was worked on in 2009. See [[[2250882]]] for a wider view. The bolt is a 1GL, as listed in www.bench-marks.org.uk/bm36733

Taken from the Church yard. An English manor house built in the 12th century is reputed to be the oldest continuously occupied home in Britain. Saltford Manor House in Saltford, Somerset, boasts a Norman window in the main bedroom and 13th century ecclesiastical paintings in the spare room.

A view of this charming little village church from the adjoining footpath. Saltford has had a church here since at least Norman times and there may be evidence of earlier worship on this site. It has become part of the Civil War history, when troops took the font and damaged it. And one other strange tale involves the footless Francis Flood, who suffered gangrene associated with the pox.
