An impressive spectacle, with its array of shiny, contorted pipes. This plant is operated by BP and produces "about 600,000 tonnes of acetic acid per year, the largest manufacturer in Europe; and about 150,000 tonnes of acetic anhydride per year". Acetic acid is used in the production of paints, adhesives, floor coverings and clothing, printing inks, glues, paints, packaging, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. Information from BP.

The clouds broke at just the right time over the Saltend chemical works as I walked alongside Burstwick Drain towards the River Humber!

Dist:0.2km<br/>With exceptionally still air on this morning, 'steam' (water vapour) rose thousands of feet into the air above the Saltend industrial site (the cooling towers are each 365 feet tall) and was a spectacular sight to see. The photo was taken about one and a half miles away from the flyover above the A1033 Hedon Bypass.
