![Dist:0.2km<br/>The Milton Keynes Dog Training Club http://www.mkdtc.org.uk/ provides agility training for beginners through to serious competitors. In 2009 their open agility show was held at Glebe Farm, Apsley Guise (see [[1439012]] ). Franci, the elderly collie style cross-breed which appears in pictures of many of my rural walks, previously belonged to Belinda, who had been an active member of the club. This year 'The Franci Trophy' www.hertfordshire-genealogy.co.uk/links/franci-trophy.htm, in memory of Belinda, was awarded to the highest placed cross breed in the Large Grade 2 Agility [Class 1] and Franci attended to present the Trophy.

![Dist:0.3km<br/>HULA www.hularescue.org is an animal sanctuary situated at Glebe Farm, Apsley Guise, and the following information comes from an information leaflet.
Founded in 1972, HULA Animal Rescue purchased a 17 acre smallholding just outside the village of Aspley Guise in Bedfordshire in 1976 and built the Sanctuary which was officially opened in early 1978.
The Sanctuary takes in unwanted and abandoned animals from Milton Keynes and the surrounding area, helping animals from as far afield as the Home Counties and the Midlands. It provides temporary shelter for dogs, cats and small animals until such time as new homes can be found for them. It also provides long term care for a variety of farm animals, Shetland ponies and donkeys, as well as various farmyard fowl such as geese, ducks and chickens. The Charity has a non-destruction policy, as long as the animal is healthy and has a quality of life.
All the animals at the Sanctuary receive first class care and attention together with regular visits from a veterinary surgeon. Before the dogs and cats are re-homed, they are neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped.
As the day to day running of a Sanctuary like HULA is very expensive, it has been impossible to update the animal accommodation and this is now a priority. More kennelling facilities are required if the Charity is to cope with the many requests it receives to take in unwanted animals whose owners' lifestyles have changed, or to re-home the pets of those who have passed away.
